An Inspirational SisStar
I am so excited to present our feature SisStar for the month of March. Keisha Mathews is a woman who is all about her business. Whether it’s helping someone with their home buying journey or taking care of her family, she gives her all. Not only is she about her business, but she is also about God’s business. She is active in her church and she makes sure that other women’s spiritual needs are being met. When I was preparing Keisha's feature I was so inspired. I was motivated to step outside my comfort zone and challenge myself to develop new habits, attitudes, and skills.

Now let’s get to know Keisha Mathews...
SiS: Who is Keisha Mathews in five words? Keisha: Faithful servant and devoted mother. SiS: How long have you been in the business of Real Estate and was it your ideal profession? Keisha: I have been in real estate for ten years and it was not my ideal profession in terms of something I longed to do. My passion has always been to be a voice for people who could not speak for themselves. During the real estate bubble, the downturn created a perfect path for me to be able to do that through short sales representing homeowners who began losing their homes. SiS: What are some challenges you face in the business of Real Estate and what motivates you to keep going? Keisha: The real estate market has always been cyclical. One minute it's one way, one year later (or six months later), it's doing something altogether different. It keeps you on your toes and keeps you constantly aware of the need to be flexible. As the market changes, sometimes how we do business must also change. I learned to be ready for change. My motivation is my long term goal. I still feel that there is much more for me to contribute not only to the world of real estate, but to the world. Real estate is a means to a greater end. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity in real estate. I have been tremendously blessed to be under and work alongside some of the best in the business. The constant success of others around me is also a huge motivator. As the saying goes, you can cluck around with the chickens or soar with the eagles. I've been soaring with the eagles and I'm so grateful that they've invited me along. SiS: Rumor has it that you can “sang”…not sing, but “sang”. Can you confirm the rumor? Is it a learned skill or a gift? Keisha: LOL!!! Ummmm... where did that rumor come from? Well, truth be told, I've always had a deep appreciation for music; played the violin for eight years from age 8, played a few song by ear via piano as a child, and have been singing since I was maybe eight years old. I was in this little singing group which consisted of me, my oldest sister Lisa, and our dear friend and neighbor Lee Ann. "Lee" as we affectionately called her, is Caucasian, so our group name was, the Oreos. Lol! We did family gigs, picnics, get-togethers, etc. As I got older, I participated in other singing groups as well. Got very close to recording with one of those groups. But God had other plans for me. My grandmother kept a bug in my ear. She would always say, "Ain't nothin' like sanging for the Lord." At 20 years of age I accepted Christ, and I became wholly committed to singing His praises. My grandma was right. |
SiS: What or who inspires you?
Keisha: I am inspired by various persons or circumstances at various times. There isn't just one person or thing that inspires me.
SiS: What do you do to relax?
Keisha: Read and eat. :D
SiS; If you could have lunch with any celebrity who would it be and why?
Keisha: Lol, this is a tough question because I am an introvert. Believe it or not. So it would have to be a "lunch and learn". I would have to pick Anthony Robbins or John Maxwell. I'd love to learn more about becoming a better me.
SiS: What is stylish to you?
Keisha: Anything early 1900s (1910-1940). I love the sleek lines and the focus on femininity in the styles. I love dresses that hug and give you a little spice but not too much. And I enjoy a splash of color in a neutral palette. Ann Taylor is my fashion "she-ro"!
SiS: Name one thing you can’t live without and why?
Keisha: Peace and quiet. That's my time to recharge.
SiS: What is the best advice you could give to another SiS wanting to pursue her passion?
Keisha: Doing something you've never done before requires a change in the way your mind is currently wired. You currently have habits that have got you where you are. To move to the next level, you need to develop new habits. I've learned them as H.A.S. (Habits Attitude, and Skills). Focus on developing new H.A.S. necessary for the next level you are trying to attain. Find someone who is already where you want to be and simply mimic them. Study their Habits, Attitude, and Skills. Then have the discipline to make the changes necessary in your own life to execute what you've learned.

Rapid fire questions: SiS: Atlanta or Athens? Keisha: Athens SiS: Diamonds or Pearls? Keisha: Pearls SiS: Oprah Winfrey or Michelle Obama? Kiesha: Michelle Obama SiS: Tetherball or Four Square? Keisha: Four Square (I always lost at tetherball) SiS: Stilettos or flats? Keisha: Stilettos all day! |
